Saints are viewed with respect all over the world. It is believed that they follow celibacy. Don’t marry. But the customs of some communities are unique. When we come to know about them, we are surprised. One such news has come from the African country Ghana. Here a 12 year old girl married a 63 year old saint. When this news spread on social media, people got angry. Then the information given by the community was even more surprising.
According to BBC report, Nungua community lives in Ghana. Their customs are unique. Two days ago, their religious leader Nuumo Borkete Laweh Tsuru XXXIII married a 12-year-old girl from his own community. This marriage took place with full traditional customs. Every person in the society became a participant in this. The age of the religious leader is 63 years. The legal minimum age to marry in Ghana is 18 years. In such a situation, when the video of this wedding went viral, there was an uproar.
People were heard even teaching virtues
In the video, all the women were asking the girl to wear such clothes in which she could tease her husband. She was also advised to use the fragrant perfume she received as a gift. People were also heard teaching the virtues of performing one’s duty as a wife. People were very angry with this and even called it child abuse. Many people called it a forced marriage. But later a statement was issued by the community. The community said that the girl was not forced to marry. The same people who do not understand our customs and traditions are criticizing us.
This statement came from the community
Community leader Nii Borte Kofi Frankwa II said the criticism is due to ignorance. The girl’s role as the priest’s wife is “purely tradition and custom”. Since the age of 6, this girl was doing penance to get the priest as her husband. This did not stop his studies at all. There was no impact on his daily life. She has been made his wife only as a ritual. Sri Tsuru is the highest priest of the Nungua community. They pray for the protection of our community. Enforce our cultural practices. However, it is being claimed in the reports that in the coming time this girl can also become the mother of the priest’s child.
